Opel shows off their automatic collision avoidance system
Opel has unveiled an Insignia prototype with an automatic collision avoidance system.
Created as part of the UR:BAN research project, the car features an advanced camera and radar system as well as and modified braking and steering systems. When an obstacle is encountered - such as a child darting out into traffic - the system will warn the driver and take evasion action if necessary.
Opel also demonstrated an Insignia Sports prototype which features a car-to-X communication system that communicates with the traffic infrastructure as well as surrounding vehicles. The system can tell the driver how to approach intersections "smoothly, safely and without wasting fuel, and preferably without stopping.
