DiscussionIt was found that the relationship between the speed ofreading and especially in-depth meaning linking was low. However, the literature clearly indicates that one ofthe specific characteristics for competency in readingis reading the text at an appropriate speed (Adams,1990; Jenkins & Jewell, 1993; Klauda & Guthrie, 2008;Logan, 1997; Talada, 2007). One could speculate fromthis finding that it is necessary to reach a reading speedparallel to speaking speed; readers who reach thisspeed cannot be thought as comprehending faster;even speed reading may influence comprehensionnegatively and students who read slowly may haveproblem in comprehending.A significant relationship was found betweenprosody skill and generally comprehension, especiallyin-depth meaning linking. Baştuğ (2012) alsodetermined that prosody was the most significant oneboth on the comprehension and writing skills. It canbe said that prosody is the better predictor of readingcomprehension in all of the reading skills. Accuratereading is especially has an effect on both memoryand recognizing skills. LaBerge and Samuels’s (1974)ideas also confirm this finding.According to the results of the study, fluent readingcan be used while measuring the students’ readingcomprehension, comparing their measurementresults or in diversifying the measures. This resultcan also be interpreted that by helping students toacquire fluent reading skills, you also help them todevelop skills regarding reading comprehension.
