Mercedes-Benz has decided to stop using the AMG Sport moniker for models positioned between the regular and the AMG lineups.

It was the end of 2014 when the German company introduced the AMG Sport family, filling the gap between the regular models and the classic AMGs. Now Car and Driver reports that Mercedes has changed its mind and decided to rename all its performance models to AMGs.

This means the Mercedes C450 AMG Sport will become Mercedes-AMG C43, which will be joined by a brand new Mercedes-AMG E43 later this year.

The 43 moniker will be also used for models coming in the future, equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine of the brand. Mercedes says the 43 index aligns perfectly with the 63 moniker, used for the 4.0 V8 biturbo models.

The manufacturer already revealed the SLC roadster that replaces the SLK, featuring the SLC43 version with 3.0 V6 biturbo. That model has 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, providing a 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) acceleration in only 4.6 seconds. The car has significantly less power than the outgoing SLK55 AMG that has been dropped from the lineup.
