Massive Deal: Liverpool pushing to sign 'extraordinary' €20m superstar with 70 goals and assists in 90 games for Juve

Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise move for 'extraordinary' €20m-rated Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, who is seemingly on his way out of Juventus.

According to multiple reports today:

* Liverpool are tracking Tevez, who is allegedly keen one a return to the Premier League.

* Tevez will have a transfer meeting 'this week' with Juventus to discuss his future.

It certainly seems as if Tevez will be available. When asked on Wednesday about the possibility of a Juve exit, General Director Giuseppe Marotta told reporters:

"The chances of him [Tevez] leaving are quite high. It’s more likely that Carlos will leave than [Andrea] Pirlo. We must reach a conclusion as soon as possible."

Liverpool have been linked with Tevez several times over the years, but he seems to be very unpopular with ex-Reds, who are always emphatically negative about the striker. Examples:

* 2011: When Tevez allegedly refused to come on in a Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Roy Evans told LFC TV: "He's a disgrace. You don't have to like the manager, but you should be there playing, and he's not, and I think he's a poor professional".

* 2011: Responding to Liverpool's alleged interest in Tevez, Graeme Souness barked: "He (Tevez) is one bad apple. He's a disgrace to football. He epitomises what most people think is wrong with modern football".

* 2012: When asked if Liverpool fans would Tevez at Anfield, Steve Nicol told ESPN: "Liverpool has a tradition, and bringing a mercenary like him [Tevez] in is not the Liverpool Way. I'd like to think that most Liverpool fans would think that way also".

Much of the ire directed at Tevez seems to stem from his alleged Bayern refusal, but the striker claims he did not refuse to go on. However, when asked after the game why he didn't enter the field of play, Tevez told reporters:

"I felt it wasn't suitable to go on because my head wasn't in the right place. I didn't want to go in because I thought I was unwell. I wasn't emotionally well and thought it better not to."

This certainly sounds like a refusal to me. However, even if it's true, Tevez was sanctioned for his behaviour, and it's unfair to hold it against him for the rest of his career.

Since that incident, Tevez has turned his career around, and one thing's for sure: he guarantees goals (either scored or created). Recent Stats:

* Man City: 73 goals/36 assists (109) in 148 apps (Goal/assist every 1.3 games)

* Juventus: 50 goals/20 assists in 90 apps (Goal/assist every 1.3 games)

In 2013, I conducted a survey asking if fans would like to see Tevez at Anfield. 63% of the 9000+ participants voted in favour of the signing, which shows that lots of fans do not share the negative views of Nicol, Souness, and Evans.

The sticking point is Tevez's age - he's 31, and it's unlikely that FSG will sanction a big-money move for a player with minimal resale value. That said, in terms of experience, ability, and injury history (missed only FOUR games through injury for his entire career), he ticks all the boxes.

Granted, it's highly unlikely that Tevez will come to Anfield, but is it worth pursuing anyway? I'd rather Liverpool signed Tevez than Radamel Falcao, who is once again being linked with an improbable move to Anfield.
