The “statement of the problem” section or the introduction to a study includes fi ve elements:
the educational topic, the research problem, a justifi cation for the problem based
on past research and practice, defi ciencies or shortcomings of past research or practice,
and the importance of addressing the problem for diverse audiences. This is an ideal
