Jodha returned home that Wednesday evening. She had completed an immense load of work that day and was looking forward to just plonking on her bed after dinner. Spending time with Jalal had been a distant dream; he was equally busy looking into the work of the new office set up at Bandra. She entered the house and heard her mother yell, "Jodha! Jodha!" "Yes, Ma!" "Beta, I needed some help. Could you come in the kitchen?" "Okay..." the girl gritted through her teeth. She was expecting to sit down and get out of her clothes, but the untimely call just poured water over her plans. "Jodha, you have to help Ma. Go!" she said to herself.

The table had been laid out and the family of four assembled. Sujamal and Jodha couldn't stop grinning at each other as they served themselves. Mainavati and Bharmal finally sat and the family began discussing how they had spent the day.

Bharmal - Maina, I think we should call Mr Mohammed over for dinner one of these days

Jodha almost choked on her food hearing the sentence while his wife just stared at him dumbfounded.

Mainavati - Hmm...but why all of a sudden?

Bharmal - Maina, I wanted to do this earlier itself but didn't get the time because the Miami trip happened and he was also busy with work. It is only because of him that I was given the Vice President post

Jodha - Haan Papa, I think we can call him on Saturday...

Mainavati - Achcha, alright. I also wanted to call Surya for dinner so we could call him that day itself.

Blood rushed to Bharmal's face on hearing the name; he knew the very mention of it was enough to cause pain to his daughter. He couldn't fathom why his wife kept entertaining the lad; it was becoming the constant cause for arguments between them. But Mainavati just refused to budge; she wanted to see Surya and Jodha together again. Her daughter's unmarried status was bothering her to no end and she wanted to see her engaged at the soonest. Even if it meant getting her back with her cheating ex, she was ready to take the plunge. His past deeds had been washed out of her memory, and he had become the eligible bachelor. She had been making several attempts to get them talking but all in vain. This dinner seemed like an opportunity knocking; Jodha would be much more relaxed and would be interested in conversing.

However, the idea had not only hit a sour note with her husband but her children as well. Jodha obviously didn't want Jalal and Surya to come face-to-face; his presence was definitely going to anger her guy and she didn't want any sort of altercation. Sujamal, on the other hand, had been annoyed to death by Surya's questions. He had been continuously asking him about his sister's work, friends apart from her relationship status. Now that he knew about Jalal, he wanted the idiot to keep his nose out of Jodha's life. He was seeing her smile after so long; and absolutely didn't want some selfish jerk to hurt her. Her family continued their introspection, while she awaited an answer.

Mainavati - Very well then, I guess I can take that as a yes!

Bharmal - No Maina!

Mainavati - Par what is the matter, ji? I am sure Mr Mohammed won't have a problem with some company...

Bharmal - Woh baat nahi hai. I have been seeing you call him over all the time, without even having a concern about Jodha; about how she would feel seeing his face all the time...you very well know he has hurt her!

Mainavati - I am not doing anything wrong! He is our neighbour, and we should always take care of them!

Bharmal - Maina, I very well know you have no intention of maintain any neighbourly' relations here! You want to fulfil your only dream here; your dream of seeing your daughter married!

Mainavati - Ji, what are you saying! Why will...

Bharmal - Don't even try that with me; odd hour snacks, discussions and gossip can mean only one thing...but I will not let this dinner turn into match-making affair! I always agree with you, but not this time! We will host Mr Mohammed only and it's final!

Mainavati - But...

Bharmal - No buts here...he is coming this Saturday, period! You can reserve another day for your gossiping and information exchange with Surya, when the three of us are away. I will not let these ministrations ruin our daughter's happiness!

She smiled at her father proudly; his words left her teary-eyed. He seemed to be the only source of support; she got up and hugged her father tight.
