Audi recalls A4, A5, Q5 to replace airbag control unit

Audi has issued a recall for the 2008-2009 A4, A5 and Q5 to replace the airbag control unit.

The modules, supplied by Continental, are built with a power supply connection that is prone to corrosion and failure.

"If the air bag control unit fails, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury," the recall documents warn.

Lack of power to the module can also prevent other safety systems, such as seat belt pretensioners, from properly engaging in an accident.

It is unclear if the issue has been associated with any accidents or injuries. Drivers are warned of the failure via the airbag indicator lamp on the instrument panel.
