We use the augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test of Dickey and Fuller (1979)
to obtain our model results and then use the Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root test of Phillips and
Perron (1988) to verify these results. Both tests assume the null hypothesis for the presence of
a unit root against the stationary alternative hypothesis. The test statistics and the critical
values used in this paper are taken from the ADF procedure in EViews 5.1. Tables 1 and 2
present the results for both periods. Below the columns headed by τC and τT are the test
statistics with allowance for only constant and constant&trend terms in the unit root tests,
respectively. Z(τC) and Z(τT) are the relevant PP statistics and ‘Δ’ denotes the first difference
operator.
