Kia semi-autonomous tech ready by 2020, driverless car due by 2030

Kia has set its sights on launching semi-autonomous driving technology by the end of the decade.
Besides fully embracing hybrid powertrains, Kia is also initiating development of semi-autonomous technology which it estimates will hit production cars within the next four years. The new hardware will be created as a result of a major $2 billion investment by 2018 necessary for creating what they describe as being Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technologies. Aside from infusing a lot of funds, Kia will also hire more engineers to work on these systems that will ultimately be implemented in “next-generation smart vehicles.”
Some of the systems currently in development include Recognition, Judgment, and Control. The first one will employ numerous sensors capable of detecting other cars, hazards, and also for reading the road up ahead to identify any possible poor driving conditions. Moving on to the second, “Judgment” will encompass high-tech computing systems that will enable the car to make its own decisions based on the information obtained by the ADAS sensors. As for “Control”, this will include active electronic and mechanical systems allowing the car to effectively apply the decisions taken by the autonomous technology.
These are just the tip of the iceberg, as Kia’s engineers are also working on other systems like Highway Driving Assist (HDA) that will combine Lane Guidance System (LGS) and Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC). There’s also going to be a Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) function, an upgraded Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS), and a new Remote Advanced Parking Assist System (RAPAS).
If everything goes according to the plan, Kia’s main objective is to put a fully autonomous car on the public roads by 2030
