Chapter 0 – Prologue Sephirah and his family left the cat beast tribe and traveled back to Gressent continent. Their destination was the Hunters academy, which was also the Hunters guild headquarters. Hunters academy was the finest academy in the entire continent. It was located in the middle of the Gressent continent surrounded by forests and mountains. The academy was not part of any country. It was solely managed by the Hunters guild. Hunters academy has two layers of walls, The outer wall and the inner wall. Both walls have 4 entrances namely East entrance, West entrance, South entrance and North entrance. The education facilities, research centers and the guild headquarters were located inside the inner wall. Markets, farmlands, artificial lakes, playgrounds and everything else required for self sufficiency were located in between the inner and outer wall. Beyond the outer wall, only forests and mountains were present. The total land of the Hunters academy including the forests and mountains was equivalent to a small country. The chief of the Hunters guild was also the principal of the academy. *** Sephirah and his family took nearly 8 months to reach the Hunters academy. If they had traveled normally without stopping, they could have reached the academy within 4 months but several unavoidable things came up and slowed their pace. At first, when they were in front of the ghost forest, Leander suggested to go around it even though it no longer has ghosts. “Do you remember that first ghost we came across? That time, when that strange ring pulled in all the ghosts and the mist, it was not among them. I am pretty sure it still lives even though it is not alive.” Everyone recollected the incidents with that ghost. Since there was no longer any need for haste, they choose to take a detour. … Then Sephirah showed signs of warrior rank breakthrough. They decided to remain in the forest until he achieves breakthrough. It took him nearly 40 days of training and finally he reached 2nd order warrior rank. As for his mage rank, it still remains the same. His mana core automatically restored itself to how it was before and the mana crystal was still in its solid form. … Within a month after Sephirah reached 2nd order, Hagen showed signs of a breakthrough. They spent another month in the forest until Hagen reached 4th order warrior rank. They also stopped in Tyros village for a couple of weeks. And after 8 months they finally reached the Hunters academy. Now Sephirah was 6 years old and Hagen was 11 years old. *** After the inspections, they entered through the west entrance. Sephirah couldn’t help but admire the vastness of the city. “Leander, I am going to see if I can find any place to sell the mana crystal we obtained from the hive type. Take care of the kids until then.” Halina turned towards the market. “Wait Halina, chief said he is willing to buy it. We can sell it to him for double the price.” Leander smiled at Halina. “Hmm… for him the mana crystal of a hive type must have aesthetic value. OK, let’s sell it to him.” Halina nodded. Mana crystals are used to create magic tools. “Mom, how much will we get from this crystal?” Sephirah asked. “Normal market value of an 8th order mana crystal is 10,000 gold. Selling it to the chief will get us around 20,000 gold.” Halina explained and smiled at Leander. Inside Gressent continent, Gold, Silver and Copper were used as currency. 100 copper coins equals 1 silver coin and 100 silver coins equals 1 gold coin. 1 gold coin was more than enough for a normal family to survive for a month in the Gressent continent. “We need to talk about some important matters with the chief, both of you stay here for a while.” Leander handed 1 gold coin to each of them. Then Halina and Leander left Sephirah and Hagen near a restaurant and walked towards the inner gate. “Should we go somewhere else? This place is boring.” Hagen turned around to check the nearby stores. “Hmm… Let’s just walk around the streets. Mom will contact us with telepathy ring when they are back.” Sephirah agreed and stood up. *** In the chief’s office, “I can’t believe it. A hive type… It could have turned into a huge disaster if you both hadn’t killed it.” The chief said in shock. “That’s not all, chief. You still remember the reports I gave you 4 years ago, right?” Leander had a serious face. “I know… the incident of the Soli village.” Chief said as he leaned back on his chair. “That time, several shadows attacked the village. But it didn’t look like the work of hive type. I think something else was behind it.” Halina said. “Also the thing with that Damon, he died by a dark element bind spell. Definitely it was not the work of that hive type.” Leander said as he recollected how Damon died. The Chief sighed, “Actually, it is not just the soli village. I received strange reports from several places in the continent. I have a bad feeling about this.” “Chief, you are a 9th order mage. You should be able to deal with whatever is lurking in the dark. Why don’t you form an investigation team and go to deal with this yourself? Waiting anymore will only worsen the situation.” Leander suggested. The chief opened a drawer in his table and took out some documents, “These documents have every detail about all the strange reports. Can the both of you investigate these reports to see if you can find something?” Halina felt troubled at the request, “But chief, we are no longer —“ The chief interrupted Halina before she could finish. “I know, I know, but who else could I send? What if another strong shadow is lurking in the dark? Halina, you are an 8th order mage and Leander, you possess soul resonance. Even if you guys encounter a 9th order shadow, at the very least you will be able to escape with your life. And I am not asking you to deal with the situation, just investigating these reports is enough, if you can find even a single clue, then I will be able to take over from there. Besides you already fought head on with a hive type, you have more information about this situation than anyone I know.” Leander couldn’t accept, “But chief, we can’t take our kids to these dangerous missions. Last time, they nearly died you know.” Chief didn’t let go either, “Just leave them here. I will temporarily enroll them to the academy. There is only one requirement to enroll which is to reach 2nd order in either warrior or mage rank within 12 years of age. Both Sephirah and Hagen meet this requirement.” “It’s not that simple chief, both of them will follow us on their own if we don’t take them. Not to mention, they possess enough will to fight an 8th order shadow head on. You won’t be able to keep them here against their will.” Halina said, worried. Leander continued after Halina, “That’s right, if you force them, they will do something to make you regret it. Especially that Sephirah, even the kings of cat beast tribe and dog beast tribe will think twice when dealing with him.” “Ha ha ha, what are you blabbering about Leander. I know Hagen is 4th order warrior and Sephirah is 2nd order warrior but you are exaggerating it a little too much just like every parents I know. Just change your telepathy ring and leave now without telling the kids. I will take care of the rest.” The chief laughed. Leander smirked at his words and Halina showed a troubled expression. - See more at: http://sephirahnovel.com/2015/04/01/prologue/#sthash.zQxtsmn3.dpuf
