Atoms are the building components of molecules and of matter. Atoms have a very small, very
dense, positively charged nucleus; the positive charge arises from protons surrounded by an equal
number of negatively charged electrons resulting in a neutrally charged atom. Almost the entire
weight of the atom arises from the nucleus.
