Competence

Ethical practice for any professional ii more than a matter of good intentions. Since the work of the counselor is based upon trust in his or her competence, the trust must be respected. Counselors have two primary ethical obligations with regard to professional competence. First, they have an obligations not to work beyond their own areas of competence, and, secondly, they are oblugated not to misrepresent the area of prefessional competence to clients or prospective clients.
