HUSQVARNA’S Vitpilen 401 will go on

HUSQVARNA’S Vitpilen 401 will go on sale in spring 2017 alongside a 125cc variant of the roadster, the firm has confirmed on its website.

The Vitpilen 401, shown above, uses the frame and engine from parent company KTM’s Duke and RC 390, so the 125 version is certain to use the steel trellis chassis and 124.7cc single shared by the Duke and RC 125.

The Vitpilen 125 isn't a complete surprise, since it was spotted undergoing road tests in June alongside a disguised 401. Visordown revealed the 401 was headed for production back in January.

It was first shown as a concept last year alongside a knobbly tyred version called the Svartpilen 401. Vitpilen translates from Swedish as ‘white arrow’ while Svartpilen is ‘black arrow’. The range is inspired by the 1950s Husqvarna Silverpilen. That’s right, ‘silver arrow’.

Husky confirmed the 125 variant after revealing the Vitpilen 701 concept at last week's Eicma motorcycle show in Milan. The 701, which is also almost certainly production bound, uses the 690cc single from KTM’s 690 Enduro R and SMC R, which is also shared by the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto and Enduro.

Husqvarna said: ‘Recognised and globally awarded for its unique design the Husqvarna VITPILEN 401 is set to hit the showrooms soon. The bike that draws on the iconic Husqvarna Silverpilen street bike of the early ‘50s combining it with modern technology and premium quality hardware will be available for sale in the spring of 2017.

‘An exciting new addition to the VITPILEN family, which will be produced to hit the dealer floors simultaneously with the 401, is the brand new VITPILEN 125. Minimalistic in layout the VITPILEN 125 is also powered by a single-cylinder engine, staying true to all the unique design characteristics of its bigger brother.’
