typically used as a surrogate to NBR/dNBR to map and characterize burn areas. A NDVI/dNDVI
assessment is possible with most earth reconnaissance satellites as they typically possess the
visible red and near infrared (VNIR) bands necessary to calculate NDVI.
To create the differenced products (dNBR or dNDVI), the NBR or NDVI is created for the pre
and postfire images and the postfire index image is subtracted from the prefire index image.
