For student’s well-being as well as protection of teachers from liability judgments, each unit guide should begin with safety instruction. Only after students receive safety instruction. should teaching in the laboratory or shop start.
Teachers must also realize that. as the instructional program progresses, additional safety instruction is needed. For example, when a welding class reaches the orientation lesson in the arc welding unit, the instructor should give each student a set of safety procedures and regulations for study and reference. An example of safety procedures and regulations for arc welding is found in Figure 6-4.

Safety instructional materials for a unit guide should be placed close to the front ‘of the guide. This location will be a reminder that safety comes first. Further information on safety in the curriculum guide appears in Chapter 10.
