The Capstone Project could ask students to look at an area they were familiar with through a whole new intellectual paradigm. Or students could make a deliberate attempt to ferret out all the unacknowledged assumptions that had influenced them over their four years. They could write an intellectual biography of how they changed their thinking on a subject and what kinds of causal, prescriptive, or paradigmatic assumptions were challenged and confirmed along the way. However it’s done, making critical thinking the central element of a capstone would close the circle nicely.
