BMW C600 Sport Scooters Recalled over Brake Lines Issues

There still are some problems that may reduce the fun of riding a BMW C600 Sport and C650GT maxi scooters, according to BMW Motorrad. A recall campaign was initiated, bearing the number 15V738000 and aiming to bring in for inspection and repairs some 1,953 vehicles in the US alone.

BMW says that over time, the protective cover may develop a kink, leading to damage to the reinforcing steel mesh under the cover, potentially causing a crack. The crack may then leak, causing improper functionality for the brake due to lower pressure in the system. Needless to say, such brake system issues pose a high risk of crashing.

The German manufacturer has also identified all the scooters that may be affected by the defect and has instructed the dealerships that stock them to stop sales until they are repaired.

Replacement parts are not expected until early February 2016

However, it may take a while until BMW and their dealers are able to repair the defective units. One of the official papers forwarded to the press states that the replacement parts should not be expected before February 2016.

BMW dealers will inspect the affected maxi scooters, and replace the brake hose with a new, redesigned one, with a cover with better flexibility. The repair will be carried out free of charge, BMW adds.

Model year 2013-2015 BMW C600 Sport manufactured August 2, 2012 to March 31, 2014 and 2013-2015 BMW C650 GT maxi scooters manufactured July 30, 2012 to May 29, 2015 are the ones affected by the recall.

No reports of any accidents or injuries related to the defect were filed with BMW, and the maker isn't otherwise aware of such events.
