Hyoyeon's POV

Tomorrow is my wedding. I'm marrying a man whom I don't love. I was forced into this wedding by my parents. An arranged marriage, a marriage without love...this was not what I wanted...not what I had planned. I wanted to marry a person I love not a stranger. But fate had different plans for me.

I sat up on the queen size bed in my apartment with a throbbing head. The alcohol I chugged down the night before with my friends was the cause of my headache. I groaned as the curtain moved in the wind letting sunlight creep through the windows and hit my face.

Without even caring to change the black cocktail dress I was wearing, I walked up to the cupboard to get some painkiller tablets. Then I went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. I gulped down a mouthful of water along with the tablet while sitting on the chair that was kept near the kitchen counter.

When the pain in my head subsided, I felt my heart aching.

I was going to get married. I felt like crying. I wanted to get drunk.

Standing in front of the 6 feet long mirror, I realized that I looked like a zombie. I needed a bath and new clothes. So after a quick bath, I wore a white lacy shirt and jeans short. Grabbing necessary accessories, I left my apartment.

“Taxi.” I waved at the first taxi that caught my eyes after getting out. The vehicle came into a halt right in front of me and I opened the door and got in. At the exact same moment, a man entered through the other door.

“What are you doing?” I shot him an angry look. “I hailed this taxi.”

His plump lips made an ‘O’. “I thought it was free.” He flashed a sheepish smile and I found it adorable. “But I am in a hurry.”

The tall man looked extremely handsome in his black suit. He had sharp facial features that made him attractive. Everything about him, from the shoes he was wearing to the way his hair was combed back, screamed rich and he looked like a gentleman. So I decided to be generous and help him.

“Where do you want to go?”

“Just drop me near the Namsan tower or anywhere near to that place.”

“Sure.” I nodded and asked the driver to head to Namsan tower.

Even though I didn’t directly see, I could feel his eyes on me from the moment the taxi started moving. It didn’t make me uncomfortable.

“So, what do you do?”

I was glad he decided to ask me something since the silent journey with a stranger was creeping me out. Suddenly I felt so stupid. I was going to marry a stranger the very next day and yet I’m feeling creepy just by sitting in a taxi with a stranger.

“I own a boutique.” I replied with a smile.

His eyes travelled up and down my body one time before stopping on my eyes. “You sure look like you own one.”

I thanked him for the compliment. “What about you?”

“I used to run a small business but I decided to stop it and help my dad with his business.”

I nodded understandingly.

The rest of the journey, we talked about our interests and it turned out that we had many things in common. We both liked dancing, traveling, trying out different dishes and reading. We both had brown poodle dogs as pets.

I felt strangely attracted to this attractive stranger.

“Thanks for the ride.”

“Sure.”

I watched as he opened the door on his side to get out.

That’s it? This is the end? He is going to go just like that?

“I forgot to ask your name.” He turned back and I smiled in relief.

“Kim Hyoyeon.”

“Kim Jongin.” He extended his hand and I gladly took it. “How about a coffee?” Seeing me hesitate, he added. “Only if you are free.”

“I believe you said you were busy.” I raised a lone brow at him in a teasing way.

“I did, didn’t I?” He showed an embarrassed smile and we both burst out laughing.

“Next time.”

“I’ll be leaving for America tomorrow. There may not be a next time.”

My smile faded away immediately. He was right, there may not be a next time but I will get married the tomorrow. What was the purpose of a coffee date if nothing could be made out of it?! It was better to not meet him at all.

“It’s okay.” He said breaking my train of thoughts. “I have a feeling that we will meet again.”

I hope not. I faked a smile and nodded.

“Bye Hyoyeon-ssi.” He waved and I waved back. “Bye Jongin-ssi.”

“Call me Kai.” He winked and I smiled widely. “Sure, bye Kai-ssi.”

Once he was out of sight, regret took over me. I regretted rejecting him.

“Madam, we have reached the hotel.” The driver informed me. I looked out of the window. The hotel had a bar attached to it and I was planning to get drunk but right then, I was in no mood to get drunk. I wanted peace. I told the driver my best friend Seohyun’s address and asked him to take me there.

“What happened unnie? You look so..unhappy?” She asked in a worried tone the moment she saw me.

“Don’t ask Hyun.” I lazily walked into her well kept apartment and plopped down on the white couch. “Get ready Hyun.”

“Get ready for what?”

I leaned back on the sofa and closed my eyes. “Take me to that library you always go to.”

“Which one?”

“The big one with a calm atmosphere. You always say that it’s very peaceful, calm and quiet there.” I explained.

“Kansan Library?” She asked and I waved her off. “Yeah, that one. Now go get ready.” I pushed her lightly.

I really wanted to go to a calm place and clear my mind. It has been thinking too much since this morning and too much alcohol will only ruin my wedding day.

In two hours, we reached Juhyun’s favorite library. It was a private library, a large one. My friend was excited to be back in her natural habitat. She forgot about me and started scanning the shelves eagerly. I didn’t mind that. I preferred to be alone at the moment. I wanted to be away from everything that troubled me. From my fiancé to the handsome Kim Jongin I got acquainted to that morning.

I randomly grabbed a book from the shelf and started reading its summary that was written on the bind. Apparently, the book was about a girl who meets a stranger while on a trip and falls in love with him. They go separate way after their journey ends only to meet again after a couple of years as coworkers.

How I wished such things happened in real life. Some people never get to find their soul mates or get to have a happily ever after with them. People like me for example.

I smiled bitterly at the thought.

“Romance genre huh?” I heard a deep voice from behind and immediately snapped my head.

“Kai?!”

I couldn’t believe he was standing right in front of me. I thought I would never meet him again that too on the very same day.

“I told you that I’d a feeling that we would meet again.” He said in a I-told-you-so tone.

“Are you sure you were not stalking me?” I playfully narrowed my eyes on him and his hands shot up in defense. “I swear I didn’t stalk you.”

I laughed at his reaction. “I was kidding.”

“I know.” He put his hands in pockets. “My father owns this place.”

I uttered a ‘wow’ feeling impressed.

“So, why are you here?” He asked.

“Oh, I came to watch a movie. Want to join?” I said sarcastically making him laugh. He smacked his forehead feeling stupid. “Stupid question, I know. But hey, I would love to go for a movie with you.” He winked at me.

“Eww..flirt.” I shoved him playfully.

“How about the coffee you said you would have with me the next time we meet?”

I gave it a thought before saying yes. Why not! I don’t want to reject and regret it once again.

After informing Seohyun, we exited the library and walked to the nearest coffee shop.

“I’ve heard their Cappuccino is really good so I’m going to try that. What about you?” Kai turned to me.

“I’ll have the same.”

We were sitting outside a coffee shop from where we could get a good view of the Han River. The chairs and tables were made of bamboo and so was the handle of the large umbrella that was casting shade on us.

“So, tell me more about you.” Kai initiated the conversation.

“Me?” I gave it a thought.

What can I say about me? Right at that moment, I was an unfortunate girl who was about to get married to a man she barely knows, sitting to have coffee with an acquaintance she feels attracted to. I have more feelings for Kai than my fiancé. Sounds funny right?

“I’m frank and friendly.” Kai kept on nodding as I described myself. “I can cook good food. I like to keep things neat and tidy. Even though I’m easy going and cool most of the time, I can be really scary when I’m angry.” He laughed when I said that and I laughed along with him.

“I’ll take a note of that.” He said and I replied. “You better!”

“What about your likes and dislikes?”

“Aside from cooking and fashion designing, I like dancing. Actually, I don’t like dancing, I love dancing!” I said enthusiastically.

“Really?” He sat up straight. “We have something in common! I love dancing too!”

“You do?” My face lightened up on hearing that. “What kind of dances do you do?”

“Mainly hip hop but I learned some sports dances as well.”

“Me too!” I got really excited. It had been years since I quit dancing because my father insisted and talking about dancing after all those years excited me. “Popping and locking are my specialties. I learned sports dances for a competition.”

Our conversation was interrupted when the waitress arrived with their order. “Two cappuccinos and two brownies.” She placed them on the table and left.

Kai and I continued our conversation and by the time we finished the cappuccinos and brownies, we realized that we had a lot in common. We both loved to dance and rap. We liked the same kind of music and had the same kind of pets, brown poodle dogs. The most shocking coincidence was that we both wanted to start dance schools on our own but couldn’t since our parents forced us to take over our family business.
