Ok, stopping the rhymes now. Let’s be real. I loved Charmed. I loved it. Although it ran for an inexplicable eight seasons on The WB, the Constance M. Burge series will forever hold a place in my heart. For me, it sat alongside Buffy the Vampire Slayer as my weekly fantasy/horror/monster fix featuring great lady characters (it was actually named the longest running hour-long TV series featuring all female leads). Now it seems as if CBS would like a new generation to learn about the Halliwell sisters.

The Hollywood Reporter says CBS has give out a script commitment for a “reimagining” of Charmed. while Vulture named Party of Five co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner as co-writers.

“Charmed 2.0 is described as a reimaginging of the original series that centered around four sisters who discover their destiny — to battle against the forces of evil using their witchcraft,” writes THR. “The Charmed reboot comes as witches continue to be a draw on the small screen. The third season of FX anthology drama American Horror Story: Coven – which centers on a school of witches — is on track to be its biggest yet and Lifetime has found success with the freshman run of Witches of East End.”

I know most of us aren’t fans of reboots, but what do you think of this one?

I wonder if a remake would be oriented towards long-term stories or baddies of the week style. Many shows these days do a sloppy middle ground.

Hesitant. That’s how I feel.
While I liked the show, it often meandered and didn’t live up to its own potential. I fear a new version would fail to even manage being likable.
I guess it will depend on who they end up casting for the sisters. The right actors can make the show really shine, like the original, even if the scripts and stories don’t live up to the potential.
Somehow, I doubt CBS will manage this though, so hesitant I remain.

Ways to make it work better than the original:
1) Have rules for magic set in stone before the show goes to air.
2) Have the female characters be likeable and/or complex, and not self-absorbed prima donnas.
3) Characters development and growth.
4) Relationships and guys should not, repeat, NOT be the driving focus behind the protagonists.

Charmed had such potential, which was completely squandered after Shannen left the series. Hopefully, this reboot will take the concept more seriously and won’t focus so much on the girls love lives or cleavage.

I … am confused? I really really liked Charmed, but I also think the original outstayed its welcome. So are we ready for a reboot? … not really. It was a fun show, I have a soft spot for it in my heart too, but beyond that, there’s nothing there. Why do we need a reimagnining? I mean, what is there to re-imagine?
And more importantly, I think the casting, more than anything else, will make or break this reboot. I can’t even begin to imagine a cast I’d be happy with …
… I’m curious to see where this goes, but it’s the kind of curiosity that makes you slow down near an accident by the side of the road … if this does catch on, I’ll probably watch a few episodes, but I’m mighty skeptic about how charmed I’ll be …

It didn’t even end that long ago. Why reboot it, why not just come up with a new witch-ey television show? I just can’t picture myself enjoying a Charmed without Holly Marie Combs or Alyssa Milano. And the original didn’t exactly end on a strong note, that last season was a mess. As much as I loved that show, I was pretty Charmed-out near the end.

A smarter move would be to do a sequel show built around Chris and Wyatt coming into their powers and, in particular, Wyatt’s struggle with not going bad. Shit – set it in Magic School and find a way to have Rose, Alyssa and Holly recur at least in the first season.

Seconding #4. There were far too many episodes revolving around romantic angst.
#6: Please no awful clothes. Phoebe’s clothes were so bad that I would spend the whole scene wondering if she’s been possessed by some evil clothes demon.

Hmmmm…I loved the original when I was a teenager but have been a bit wary of re-watching it as a more feminism-aware adult. If there’s any chance this one would make the sister’s more positive, kick-ass, female role models then maybe it’s worth the risk?
If nothing else, it would be one of few shows on TV which starred not one, but three women as it’s main cast. That would be nice.

Someone already did come out with that witchy-themed tv show recently, with the blond teenager who moves back to her own town and ends up in a coven?..I thought it was pretty terrible! If they can’t do better than that with either a reboot of Charmed or a new witchy show, I’d rather they just give up!
(p.s: yeah the last season of Charmed was pretty crap as I remember! I never like those other two girls!)

I know right? I stopped watching for years, came back a LOT more feminist aware, and had to stop watching.
There was one episode, in the last season, where a demon’s trying to kidnap Piper’s baby Wyatt,(of course) and possesses the body of a parent at his daycare, one Piper has a hearty dislike for, to do it.
So this woman had her body violated, and at the end, the woman is shown to be confused and discomforted, but Piper IS AMUSED!!! Like I get that she was an unpleasant person BEFORE she was ever possessed by a demon, but really, we’re just supposed to accept our “heroes” laughing at what amounts to a rape victim? I DON’T THINK SO!

At the beginning it didn’t give the villains enough staying power, without a good season long arc. They were vanquishing demons left and right.
Then at the end, they were over relying on them being UNABLE to defeat the bad guys, and kept them around too long, with few simple problems along the way.

Aku bertanya-tanya jika remake akan berorientasi jangka panjang cerita atau penjahat gaya minggu. Banyak menunjukkan hari ini melakukan tengah ceroboh.

sementara aku suka acara, itu sering jalan berkelok dan tidak memenuhi potensinya. Aku takut versi baru akan gagal untuk bahkan berhasil menjadi menyenangkan.
Saya kira itu akan tergantung pada yang mereka akhirnya casting untuk para Suster. Para aktor yang tepat dapat membuat acara benar-benar bersinar, seperti aslinya, bahkan jika script dan cerita tidak hidup ke potensi.

Hmmmm...Aku mencintai asli ketika saya masih remaja tetapi telah sedikit waspada menonton kembali sebagai seorang dewasa yang lebih sadar feminisme. Jika ada kesempatan satu ini akan membuat saudara lebih positif, kick ass, model peran wanita maka mungkin memang Sepadan dengan risikonya?
