Though not without its automotive background, Yamaha typically focuses more on two-wheeled vehicles than four. And that's largely the case as well at the Tokyo Motor Show this year. Only this time, the Japanese giant also brought an intriguing four-wheeled sports car concept as well.Called the Sports Ride concept, the design adopts a compact form – but one inspired by the sensation of riding a motorcycle. Its overall dimensions measure similar to those of a Mazda MX-5 Miata, but at 1,650 pounds, it's even lighter. That compact form is stylistically rendered with enticingly aggressive bodywork that is unmistakably Japanese, but not without its similarities (particularly around the greenhouse) to supercars like the McLaren P1.That may not be entirely by accident. Because while the design may have been carried out in-house, like the Motiv city car concept unveiled at the same show two years ago, the Sports Ride concept is designed to work with the iStream process pioneered by Gordon Murray. And we needn't point out that he was the same designer behind the legendary McLaren F1.Inspirations and production methods aside, the Yamaha Sports Ride concept looks rather striking in its dark grey finish. Especially with its saddle brown leather interior and carbon-fiber and metallic accents, which on the supercar spectrum remind us more of the Pagani Huayra. Only much smaller, and presumably with a more compact engine. And hopefully it'd be much more attainable, too, if Yamaha actually puts it into production... and brings it to the North American market.Scope out the details in the press release below along with the images in the gallery above, along with those of the motorcycles Yamaha brought to the show. Watch this space for more as well, as we hope to bring you live images of the Sports Ride concept from the show floor tomorrow.
