in the 4 methods for all pesticides except acephate, omethoate,
and spinosyns A and D (spinosad). Similar results were obtained
with or without use of the IS, and both GC and LC results
are shown for those analytes that overlap to show the differences that can sometimes occur, possibly due to direct and/or
indirect matrix effects. Interestingly, the Na-adduct of aldicarb
yielded higher recovery when NaOAc was used for partitioning (AOAC 2007.01) than when ammonium buffers were used,
but this also occurred in the NH4Cl version. Variability of the
results and previous studies must be taken into account when
making conclusions, and curiosities such as the Na-adduct are
reported for possible follow-up investigations. As usual in multiclass, multiresidue analysis, trade-offs were observed among the
different versions, with the AOAC 2007.01 method yielding higher
recoveries for acephate and omethoate, but lower recovery for
spinosad.
Unfortunately, the results for all versions remained poor for
chlorothalonil, captan, and folpet due to degradation when those
pesticides are dissolved in MeCN solutions [5–8,15,18–23]. Endosulfan sulfate results were mysteriously unreliable from all 4
versions, but unlike the other analytes, this was unrelated to sample preparation and was resolved in a subsequent study [21]. Also
