Children demonstrated both their capacity and their willingness to engage in discussions aboutimportant issues and were somewhat alarmed to hear that children were not always engaged inresearch activities, or policy or program development. As one child in the reference groupremarked, “Kids should be asked about stuff that’s got to do with them . . . They can tell you stuffyou’d never think of—cos you’re not a kid.”Although we have much to learn about how best to engage children in research, this projectgreatly benefited from the opportunity to work with children themselves in constructing anddelivering its research activities.Figure 5.
