A woman shot by security forces in the northern city of Afula on Friday morning after trying to stab a security guard was identified as a resident of the predominantly Arab Israeli city of Nazareth.The woman, named by the Shin Bet security service as 30-year-old Asraa Zidan Tawfik Abed, was shot after she brandished a knife and attempted to stab a security guard, police said.Footage captured at the scene shows Abed holding a knife in one hand, while surrounded by IDF soldiers and security guards. In Hebrew and English, they instructed her to put down her weapon. Channel 2 said she was also holding a mobile phone, and had a bag over her shoulder.Israel Police arrived at the scene and again told Abed to drop the knife. When she refused again, soldiers and police officers shot her in the lower body. She was taken to Poriya Hospital in Tiberias, where she underwent surgery for her injuries, the Hebrew-language Maariv website reported.Paramedics on the scene also treated two people for anxiety following the incident.Abed’s family said Friday evening that she suffers from mental problems. On Friday morning, a Jewish man stabbed four Arabs in the southern city of Dimona, hours before two Israelis were lightly injured in separate attacks by Palestinians.In Jerusalem around noon, a Jewish teenager was lightly injured when he was stabbed by a Palestinian from Hebron. Several minutes later, in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, a policeman was stabbed and lightly injured by a Palestinian man who was then shot to death by other officers.Afula was also the scene of a stabbing attack on an Israeli soldier on Thursday afternoon. The soldier was moderately wounded and his attacker was apprehended by police.Friday’s stabbings come amid a wave of such attacks against Jewish Israelis.In all, seven Israelis were injured in four stabbing incidents on Thursday, including attacks in Jerusalem and Kiryat Arba.On Wednesday, Israelis were hurt in three stabbings.Those attacks came days after two Israeli men were stabbed to death in the Old City of Jerusalem and an Israeli couple were gunned down in the West Bank in front of their four children.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
