This key is a work in progress: I make no claims to originality or to the key’s ability to
identify all Indo-Malayan stingless bees. I started with the framework provided by H. F.
Schwarz’s key published in “The Indo-Malayan Species of Trigona” (Schwarz, 1939) and
updated generic names and valid species according to Rasmussen’s “Catalog of the Indo-
Malayan/Australasian stingless bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini)” (Rasmussen 2008).
I also made use of excellent keys by Sakagami (1978), Sakagami et al. (1985, 1990), Moure
(1961) and others. I used publications by Schwarz (1939), J. S. M o u r e (1961), Sakagami
(1975), Inoue and Sakagami (1993) and Michener (2000, 2007a) for description of the 13
genera included in this key.
