(Peterson et al., 2008) especially during development
and reproduction (Wixon, 2000;
Anderson et al., 2000). Zebrafish has many
innate characteristics that are advantages in
research, which include its small physical size,
robust nature, ease of culture, high fecundity
and externally developing transparent embryos
(Segner, 2009) allowing for cost effective
investigations.
Review of literature suggests that only
little published work is available on the effects
of DM in zebrafish. They are significant alterations
in DNA, RNA, total protein, free amino acid contents and activities of acid and alkaline
phosphatases (Sharma and Ansari, 2011,
Sharma et al., 2012), behavioral and body colour
changes (Ansari and Sharma, 2009), significant
reductions in fecundity and hatchability
(Sharma and Ansari, 2010), sensitivity of
early stages (Gorge and Nagel, 1990) and craniofacial
abnormalities in embryos (DeMicco
et al., 2010).
