Gross Skeletal Lesions
Gross skeletal changes included those centered on
joints, exostoses on long bones and ribs and
osteomyelitis-related lesions of the mandible. In four
kangaroos (all from Portland Aluminium), scoring
of joint-centered lesions was not performed, either
because joints on only one side of the animal were
examined (n ¼ 1) or they were the first animals examined
and insufficient photographs were taken to
assign scores retrospectively (n ¼ 3). Lesions centered
on joints were consistent with degenerative joint disease
and included joint enlargement, various degrees
of cartilage damage and degeneration (Fig. 1), thickening
of the membranes of the joint capsule and osteophytosis
(Fig. 2).
