BUCKLE DETECTION PROCEDURE
6.7.1 General
The buckle event of pipeline will be avoided by good control of required installation parameters such as
the lay tension, stinger profile, pipeline profile, touch down point and pipeline track. In the worst
scenario that a wet buckle is happening, the pipeline installation analyses have considered and proven
that H106 have the capability to hold and abandon the pipeline in flooded case. Further details can
referred in the following documents :

WHP to KE-5 CPP
After the pipeline installation complete, flooding, cleaning and gauging of the pipeline which will
ultimately ensure the pipeline internal diameter meet the requirement and there is no buckle, will be
performed by H106. Hence in the worst scenario that the pig gauge plate is damage due to buckle, the
H106 will be immediately available to find and repair the buckle.
As per DNV-OS-F101-2010, Section 10-D705, the intention of buckle detector is to identify a buckle at
an early stage. If good control of installation parameters is in place and consequence of possible
buckle is found acceptable, the use of buckle detector will not be required. Apart from the code
guidelines, the use of buckle detector for small pipelines as in this project, 6” and 8”, instead of
reducing, it will increasing the risk to the installation execution due to the high possibility of the buckle
