Statistical Analysis
The experiment was conducted as a completely randomized
design with 6 treatments arranged factorially.
Main effects (type of cereal and GMD of the cereal) and
the interaction were analyzed using the GLM procedure
of SAS Institute (1990). The experimental unit was a
group of 20 hens for all traits studied. The variance of
all the data measured was homogeneous as tested by
the HOVTEST option of the GLM procedure. When the GMD effect was significant, the Tukey test was
used to make pairwise comparisons among treatment
means. Non-normal distributed data (mortality rate;
shell color; percentage of dirty, broken, and shell-less
eggs; and percentage of blood and meat spots) were
analyzed by using the CATMOD procedure. Results
in tables are presented as means, and differences were
considered significant at P < 0.05.
