Incidence and Prevalence of CVD
CVD is a long-term complication of T1DM
that is a major concern for patients and
healthcare providers. For the purposes
of the present review, CVD will be de-
fined as coronary heart disease (CHD),
cerebrovascular disease, or peripheral
artery disease (PAD). Heart failure and
cardiomyopathy have also been de-
scribed in T1DM (6,7), although informa-
tion about these conditions in T1DM is
less robust than for CHD and cerebrovas-
cular disease, and they are not the focus
