Hi Agnez, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

GREAT!!! Thanks for asking. Been traveling and a little exhausted, but i can’t complain.

So you have released your new EP Boy Magnet The Remixes – how did you come up with the idea of making this record?

It happens organically; and i believe when things are meant to happen, it’s going to happen no matter what. Hector Fonseca, who’s an amazing DJ, did a dance mix for Boy magnet and he started playing it on his tour. We didn’t know what was happening until he told us that the response was crazy. His audience were asking him about what is the title of the song, who’s on that Boy Magnet song, how they can buy it, is it on itunes, and so on. Then the other world DJs started doing their own dance mixes, such as, John Dish. After that, the fans responded by somewhat forcing us to release this dance remix package.

We thought, releasing this Dance remix album is the only thing that makes sense after this demand. I went to the studio to listen to all of the remixes, to see if i actually like them and if i “believe” in it. One thing that i always believe is that i want to put out music if i believe in it; if i LIKE it first.

And i did. I like them! So yeah, now the dance remix album is out!

I am blessed to know that the fans have been reacting well. I am truly humbled by how supportive these DJs that worked on this Dance remix package are, and of course happy to know that the fans were digging it!!

What´s the story behind the title?

The original version of Boy Magnet is penned by two AMAZING writers whom i get to call friends, my girl, MAKEBA RIDDICK, and the amazing JIM BEANZ. We had worked together before we worked on this Boy Magnet song.

I knew Jim from working with Timbaland and his camp possibly 3 years before we got to work together A LOT for this album. I also write with Beanz for my album.

With Makeba, when we were working, we got to actually hang out as friends. Talk about stuff outside the music business. Just like 2 girlfriends.

So it’s safe to say that they KNOW me.

They know the vulnerable side of me, but he also knows the fun i-love-to-wear-hat-and-heels, tomboy slash feminine side of me. The innocent yet see right through your bullshit type of girl.

That is what they had in mind when they wrote this. It’s supposed to be FUN, and empowering. Full of confidence.

How was the recording and writing process?

When we write together, or when they write for me, we cannot stress enough how “authentic” it needs to be; meaning, i need to be able to relate to the song and believe it. Because they know me personally and we always communicate with each other, the recording and writing process is easy.

(WE ACTUALLY LIKE EACH OTHER! LOL — thats what makes it super easy)

I was not in the studio on that specific day, unfortunately, because i was in another studio working on my other songs. And i remember, Jim AND Makeba text me saying “we just wrote you a HIT!!!!!”

I mean, first of all they’re not the type of writers who say that about EVERY SINGLE THING they write. Second of all, more importantly, they write hits all the time, so for them to say that they just wrote me a hit is the more reason i wanted to fly to their studio.

As soon as i heard the song, i was like, ok. lets record right now. We ended up recording it the next day just because i want to get familiar with the song.

The album features remixes by some iconic and great names in the industry – did you handpick the DJs or how was the selection process? What were you looking for on the DJs and producers that you found on these guys?

I have to admit that i haven’t been in dance scene much. But i believe in great music and FEELINGS to music. The remixes are GREAT. i love it. I feel it. If it’s great music, it’s great music. Urban, POp, rhythmic, dance, whatever. If it’s great music, it’s great music.
