ALL-AGE ACTIVITIES
Four prayer-focused
children's activities, which
are ideal for use with
11 to 18 year-olds in church,
Sunday school or school.
This is part of our suite
of resources for the 2015
World Weekend of Prayer,
Broken heart prayer
on the theme of
I am with you always.
You will need: A white board or large sheet of
paper, thick marker pen, strips of paper, pens,
Blu-Tack or selotape
Draw on the board or on a large sheet of paper
the outline of a large heart, reminding everyone
that God loves them. Give each person in the
group/congregation a small strip of paper and
pen.
Ask half of the group (A) to write, on their strip
of paper, one thing in the world that might break
God’s heart. Ask the other half of the people to
write down one thing that would make God’s
heart light up with joy. Draw a jagged line in the
middle of the heart to show how his heart is
broken when we don’t live as he wants us to. Ask
one member of the A group to bring their strip
and stick it on one side of the heart, reading what
is says.
Ask a member of group B to then bring one of
their strips and stick it on the right hand side.
Continue this ‘balancing’ of God’s heart to show
how important it is to recognise what things are
going wrong in the world and how important it is
to ’balance’ this with God’s good work.
Prayer tree
You will need: A bare branch of a tree, a pot,
small pieces of paper, pens and paper clips.
Lodge the branch into a pot so that it resembles
a bare tree.
Explain we are all a part of God’s world,
individuals like the many leaves on a tree.
God is the tree, with us always, nurturing and
protecting. Ask each member of the group to
write on a piece of paper one thing in the world
that reminds them of God. Ask them to come
forward and use a paper clip to attach their ‘leaf ’
to a tree.
Some of the children could be asked beforehand
to cut out ‘leaf-shaped’ pieces of paper to give
the tree a better look. The pieces of paper could
be green or coloured to give a good visual effect.
Pray and thank God for the many things
mentioned on the tree.

Gifts of promises
You will need: Blackboard or whiteboard,
paper and pens
You will need: Cards or pieces of paper and
pencils for everyone and collection box
God made a promise to be with us always. We
can make him promises too. Give each member
of your group a piece of paper or card and pen.
Ask them to think of one or two promises they
can make to God, focusing on attitudes and
actions. These could include: not being angry with
people, making regular donations, or taking more
time to spend with God during the year.
Ask them to write down these promises on
the cards, without their names, and pass round
a collection box to put each card in. The group
could decide to put these promises on a wall.
Ask each member to make the promises
privately in their heads as they put the card in
the box.
Pray to God that we can keep our promises to him
in the same way as he keeps his promises to us.
