Although mathematical modelling has been extensively used to address questions of public health importance,
dating back to the pioneering works of Bernoulli (on modelling the dynamics of smallpox) in 1760 [3],
Kermack and McKendrick [19–21] and those reported in more recent literature (such as in [1,2,4,6–9,11–
15,18,24,26,28] and the references therein), not much has been done in terms of the mathematical modeling
of human social behaviour. In particular, with the exception of the basic model in [4,10], the authors are
not aware of any mathematical study (talkless of the rigorous qualitative analyses of the models) for fully
examining, and assessing, the impact of smoking in a human population.
