in the Developed Countries
The development of cheap-labor export factories in the Third World is
matched by plant closures in the industrial cities of the advanced countries.
The earlier wave of plant closures affected largely the (labor-intensive)
areas of light manufacturing. Since the 1980s, however, all sectors of the
Western economy (and all categories of the labor force) have been affected:
corporate restructuring of the aerospace and engineering industries,
relocation of automobile production to Eastern Europe
