In diglossic community there is a highly valued of H (high) variety which is learned in
schools and is not used for ordinary conversations, whereas the L (low) variety is the one used
in conversations. Diglossia is a relatively stable phenomenon. It is implied that if a society
is changing and diglossia is beginning to fade away this will have specific signs, such as
mixing between the forms of H and L, and thus an overlap between the functions of H and L.
