Calices commonly have hoods, so that on thicker branched colonies there is a very close resemblance to slender Stylophora pistillata from sheltered water. However, calices of Seriatopora caliendrum run in rows and are oval. It is not a common species, but is found on reef slopes between the surface and 25 m deep. It prefers sheltered water, and is more common on back reef than fore reef areas (Sheppard, 1998).
