Most dreamers don't, but some of them then come back wondering where their product went, or if their previous reactions worked. I always dream this way cause the product I'm manipulating has much greater value than a little extra work and pennies involved keeping things clean. That's a matter of yields and of newbee frustration. It can become critical however when dealing with very small amounts of product, as that is easily lost in the wash altogether when a bit of h2o is present.
All set - yer ready to give it the gas. Drip in a small amount of concentrated sulfuric acid (conc H2SO4). Be patient, do not squirt in a bunch. When the H2SO4 percolates down and meets the slush it will snag H2O leaving HCl nowhere to hide. HCl is alone, and the remaining bachelor H2Os are busy holding hands with all the Na and Cl babes. HCl will have to leave the party behind and go gaseous. Pressure builds in the system, and the bubbling commences. If there is sufficient alkaloid something in the solvent to be salted out you should see solids begin to form within a few minutes. If your crystals gets thick in there (lucky you) filter that product out and put it in something to dry. Bubble the solvent again. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

If you don't need lab glassware for other purposes, a mason jar version like this is EZ and appropriate, and will help keep you out of jail should Deputy Barney come looking. Nothing gets you into jail faster than laboratory glassware.
* The H2SO4 drip onto NaCl/HCl slush can allegedly be replaced by dropping aluminum foil straight into HCl acid. A correspondent did this experimentaly and recognised the aroma of HCl (it chased him out of the room in fact). It is a vigorous reaction, the clandestine chemist would be cautious and prepared for this.
* If there isn't much in there to start with you may not see anything. The solvent will just become HCl saturated (smokin). Don't throw it away yet. Seal it up, put it in the freezer overnight and see what develops.
* If you have a leak, or your fume disposal isn't what you thought, your mucus membranes will notice that fact pretty quickly - Shut the stopcock and ventilate the room.
