The IT manager in an organization was going to implement a new system which would impact on many of the people in the organization. To ensure everyone was aware of the work she gave a formal presentation every fortnight in the staff canteen on Friday between 10 and 11 am. The presentations gave very clear status updates, set expectations as to impact of the change, and reminded everyone of the project’s objectives.
Some of her colleagues thought these sessions were excellent, and told her that they had never been so well informed about an upcoming change.
Others though, were less complimentary. Typical comments were: “What about the staff that are not based in this building?”, “What about people who are not free from 10 to 11 am on Fridays?”, “PowerPoint is not the best way to explain the project to all of our staff.”
