Wilkening and Martin task in a virtual environment, with respect to both the visual and
the haptic sense, and at the same time reduced the imagery demands. Even more 10 - year olds acted according to physical laws, as could be seen from their speed productions,
while still adhering to the wrong linear rule in their judgments. Many adults, on the other
hand, now also judged according to physical laws, as had been found to hold for their
actions. In other words, by varying the task while keeping its logical structure, the knowledge
dissociation was found to decrease in adults and to increase in children. Thus, instead of asking which of the tasks is the more adequate to assess children ’ s “ real ” knowledge,
the phenomenon of knowledge dissociation may be worth studying in itself.
