Different domains of self-esteem

Harter believes that there are five separate areas/domains
involved in assessing children’s self-esteem: (i) scholastic
competence; (ii) athletic competence; (iii) social acceptance
(perceived popularity with his/her peers); (iv) physical
appearance (how good-looking the child believes him/herself
to be); (v) behavioural conduct (acceptability of the child’s
behaviour as the child sees it).
These five domains are combined to make a single
assessment tool, the Self-Perception Profile for Children (S-PPC).
A global self-worth scale is included, which asks how much
children like themselves as people. Profiles can be consistently
high, consistently low, or can vary across domains
