This paper presents the design and development of anergonomic data measurement system for driver–pedalsinteraction. The work focuses in particular on theactuation of the acceleration and brake pedals, and aimsto support the development of a deeper understandingof the factors influencing the driving comfort associatedwith the right leg. The ergonomic data measurementsystem integrates five subsystems: an electrogoniometrysystem and a pressure-pads system tomonitor driver’s positioning and movements, anelectromiography system to observe the muscularactivity of the lower leg, the vehicle on-board diagnosticsystem, a GPS system and an audio-visual system forproviding environment and driving situation information.A validation exercise involving a series of test driveevents confirmed the system capability to recordmeaningful objective comfort data which candifferentiate between driving postures and styles.
