Pomegranate peels constitute approximately 40% of the whole fruit and are rich in ellagic acid derivatives such as the ellagitannins, punicalagin, and punicalin (Negi, Jayapraska and Jena 2003). Pomegranate seed contains a range of nutraceutical components such as sterols, γ-tocopherol, punicic acid and hydroxybenzoic acids (He et al. 2011).
