We have described these thinking strategies as “generic problem-solving skills.” These general problem-solving skills are a from of thinking strategy that is different from the domain-specific problem solving discussed in Chapter 12. In this chapter, we will discuss the nature of both learning strategies and thinking strategies, and how both learning and thinking strategies may be taught so that they are within a learner’s repertoire and available for use. We will give more attention to learning strategies, primarily because they have been more clearly described and their related insructional strategies have proven to be more successful than more general thinking strategies . We will include integration into the expanded instructional events and a sample lesson for learning strategies only.
