Calculating the standard deviation of students’ pre-test and post-test by using the following formula:

Hypothesis in this research using t-test by the following formula:
t=(x ̅_1-x ̅_2)/√(1/n_1 +1/n_2 )

S = Standard deviation
x ̅_1 = The average of value group learning
x ̅_2 = The average of value individual learning
n_1 = Number of students in group learning
n_2 = Number of students in individual learning

The testing hypothesis criteria are as follows:
If ttest ≥ ttable, the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is significant improvement of students vocabulary mastery through translation short story in of SMAN 4 Baubau.
If ttest ≤ ttable, the hypothesis is rejected. It means that there is not significant improvement of students vocabulary mastery through translation short story in of SMAN 4 Baubau.
