Development of indications for BLTGolden et al. (2005) published a meta-analysis of studiesreporting positive effects of BLT in affective disorders. The authors emphasized the existing differences in themethodology of the analyzed publications, including lackof rigorous study design. Nevertheless, in a majority ofrandomized, controlled studies, the beneficial effects ofBLT in SAD and other depressive disorders were evidentand comparable with the ones using antidepressants. Thismeta-analysis included only the studies, which enrolledadult patients (aged 18–65 years), and excluded the ones, which investigated children, adolescents and elderlypatients. An interesting review was done by Pail et al.(2011), in which the authors paid a special attention tonumerous obstacles that the researchers may encounter indesigning their study protocols. The authors indicate thatBLT is an efficacious, but probably underestimated treatment method for affective disorders, with good tolerabilityand acceptance.
